Ellis, Mort keep Tonge on track

BOWLS:
GARY Ellis and Stuart Mort rescued Tonge from danger in Wednesday’s Manchester Premier League home match against South Manchester Royal British Legion.
The title holders and current leaders trailed by 14 chalks with only two jacks remaining.
But Ellis (21-5) and Mort (21-12) turned things round for Tonge, who ended up with a 9-6 (177-166) victory to stay on target for back-to-back titles.
Other winners for Tonge were Andy Cairns (21-11), Jimmy Derby (21-18), Steve Squire (21-18) and Thomas Dobson (21-18).
NORDEN BC’S Thwaites men’s pairs gets under way on Sunday (5.30pm), while the AC Ventilation women’s pairs will be held at the same time.
HOPWOOD’S Ryan Goodman has qualified for the finals of the £1,120 Royle Summer Classic, and
tomorrow’s heats (6pm) feature Tonge’s Andrew Cairns and Jimmy Derby, and Royton’s Steve Bolton.
