GOLF: STEVE Taylor came out on top in the inaugural running of Eddie Hopkinson Memorial Trophy at Crompton and Royton with a 41-point haul.
The former Athletic striker of the late 1970s, who also played for a variety of North-West clubs and went on to manage Mossley, ended up a point clear of the chasing pack.
Just behind on 40 was James Keogh, who scooped second place on a card play-off against Maurice Nicholson.
In the play-off for the Seven Cup, Ryan O'Leary picked up major honours thanks to a 76-10-66 scorecard.
Ian Smith was runner-up (78-9-69) from third-placed Mark Barrett (78-5-73), with Brad Cannings (81-6-75) and Steve Pass (95-16-79) just behind.
