Werneth hit back

GOLF:
WERNETH have reached the last 16 of the Manchester Alliance’s Archie Preston mixed foursomes with an unlikely 4-3 win at Stamford.
It looked an uphill battle when the home side won the first two matches out.
But successes for Jack Suttie and Pat Grant (2&1), Pete and Marilyn Griffin (4&3), John Yemm and Sheila Waterhouse (2&1) and Adam Rowbotham and Heather Jeffreys (3&2) turned the tie around.
Unfortunately, the men’s team could not repeat the success 24 hours later when they lost 4-3 at Didsbury in the second round of the City Glass foursomes.
Winners for Werneth were John Barlow and Kevin Roberts (1 hole), James Buckley and Glen Shaw (2&1) and vice-captain Lee Rowbotham and Derek Ashford (2&1).
