Plus mark for teenage marvel

GOLF: WERNETH teenage sensation Jack Suttie has become a plus handicap golfer for the first time.
The 18-year-old secured the +1 mark — a first for the Garden Suburb club — when he recorded a six-under 62 to win the June monthly medal.
And Jack, who is still waiting to see if his earlier season score of 61 is ratified as equalling the course record, could have gone even lower.
He wanted a birdie at the last for a round of 60 — lower even than the professional course record that is also set at 61 — but he charged the putt past and missed the return.
Nevertheless the 62 was enough for a two-shot victory and sees him full of confidence entering this weekend’s 36-hole District Championships at Saddleworth.
AT BROOKDALE, Frank Oakland, thanks to a round of 65-71-136, won the Millennium Trophy, a major competition.
In second place was Duncan Baird (68-69-137), with Don Somers (70-68-138) close up in third.
