RUGBY:

SADDLEWORTH Rangers chairman Terry Flanagan believes the appointment of Martin Crompton as coach will be beneficial to the club right from the grass roots upwards.

Crompton, a former player with Warrington, Wigan and Oldham Bears and a promising coach at Blackpool, has agreed to take control of first-team affairs for the abbreviated forthcoming winter season.

“Martin’s appointment is a great boost for us,” said Flanagan.

“We are looking for it to affect the whole club, right down to the kids who are just starting to play the game.

“He has a real charisma about him and I know that lads will really want to play for him.

“We want his vast rugby league experience to be allocated right across the board.”
