Smith is Middleton hero

CRICKET: MIDDLETON booked their place against Royton in the final of the Wood Cup with a 72-runs victory over Clifton in their semi-final at Towncroft yesterday.
Taking first guard, Middleton made 275 thanks to pro Michael Smith's superb 150 and 63 from Reece Jones.
In reply, Clifton were bowled out for 203, George Walker taking four for 26.
WERNETH were beaten in the semi-final of the Burton Cup for CLL second X1s.
Werneth made 200 at Littleborough, but the hosts passed the total with seven wickets to spare.
Boro will play Walsden, conquerors of Norden, in the final on August 14. The teams will toss for home advantage.
