CRICKET: ROYTON were the only one of the four local Lake Garage CLL clubs to win a league fixture on Saturday.

And they had to do so without a batting contribution from professional Luke Procter, who was involved in a health scare surrounding his three-month-old son, Albie Jacques.

Procter was waiting to bat against Milnrow at the Paddock when his fiance Samantha rang his mobile to say she had taken young Alfie to Oldham Royal Hospital with a skin rash.

Procter dashed to the hospital to be with his son and fiance, but early fears of meningitis were removed by doctors, who established that Alfie had suffered a viral infection.

Procter returned to Royton for Milnrow's innings and played with his mobile phone in his pocket in case Alfie suffered a relapse.

Thankfully, the youngster's condition improved and he was continuing on the mend yesterday.

As for the game itself, Royton made 204 for six, Chris Hutchinson hitting 62 and skipper Alan Durose 60.

In reply, Milnrow were bowled out for 142 despite former Royton youngster Joe Lovell's 36.

Hutchinson completed a fine all-round performance with three wickets for nine runs, while Procter weighed in with three for 15.

CROMPTON were swept aside by leaders Norden at Woodhouse Lane.

Home pro Michael Price smashed 170 and overseas amateur Michael Lemm 69 in Norden's 311 for six before Crompton were dismissed for 160, paid man Fida Hussain hitting 52 and Steve Wilde taking five for 25.

OLDHAM lost by nine wickets at home to Monton and Weaste.

Overseas amateur Todd Turner top scored with an unbeaten 35 and Dominic Gavin took five for 56 in Oldham's 126 all out, a score Monton passed for the loss of a single wicket.

Pro Paul Green hit an unbeaten 56 and Jake Sandon 50 not out.

WERNETH were beaten by four wickets by Rochdale at Redbrook.

Lewis Ashton hit 38 and Matt Taylor 31 in Werneth's 169, home pro Dieter Klein taking three for 30.

And despite three for 39 from Werneth skipper Andy Walker, Rochdale reached their target for the loss of six wickets as Andrew Dawson (52) and Ian Halliwell (52 not out) filled their boots.
