CRICKET: ANDREA Agathangelou was in a class apart as Uppermill’s LCB Cup crusade was ended by CLL outfit Heywood at a packed Leefields yesterday.
The Lancashire CC second XI captain struck a superb 137 from 115 balls to set up a 65-run win in the last-16 tie.
Heywood’s professional hit 13 fours and eight sixes at the top of the order, before finally succumbing to Adam Robinson with the total on 234.
Agathangelou’s knock, plus an unbeaten 53 from overseas amateur Hamish Paterson, lifted the visitors to an impressive 285 for seven from their 45 overs.
Paid man Imran Aslam was the pick of the Uppermill attack with figures of three for 43.
The hosts made a decent start in reply, adding 77 in the first 10 overs, before a steady stream of wickets saw them slip to 143 for six.
Uppermill were eventually dismissed for 220 in the 39th over.
Skipper Alex Griffiths compiled a typically-stubborn 47 after opener Andy McVeigh had made 43.
Agathangelou grabbed two for 46 as his side booked their ticket for the quarter-finals.
