GOLF: FORMER Athletic striker Steve Taylor won the Eddie Hopkinson Memorial Trophy in a competiton at Royton and Crompton.
Steve received the trophy from Paul Hopkinson and Gordon Lamb, captain of Crompton and Royton Golf Club.
Taylor, who played for Athletic in the 1970s and was also manager of Mossley, finished with 41 points.
He was a fitting winner: the major competition is named after the late Bolton and England goalkeeper and the trophy was donated by Eddie’s son, Paul. It sits at Crompton and Royton in a special cabinet given by Eddie’s brother, Bob.
Alongside it is an England cap which former Crompton and Royton member Eddie received for an appearance against France in 1957.
