PLANS for Oldham’s Ronnie Heffron to fight twice in a week have been scrapped.
The 20-year-old welterweight was due to warm-up for his clash with Barrie Jones with a fight at London’s ExCel Arena on Saturday, on the undercard of Kevin Mitchell v John Murray.
But Mitchell requested it be postponed by a week and the show has now been shifted to July 16 at the Liverpool Echo Arena, where “Razor Ronnie” faces Jones.
Heffron’s Failsworth-based trainer Anthony Farnell explained: “Mitchell had a virus which interrupted his preparations, and the show was moved.
“As a result, Ronnie’s first fight this Saturday down in London could not go ahead.
“He is disappointed as he is desperate to get back in that ring, so at the moment it is a case of trying to keep him calm and getting him to chill out.
“Ronnie has one more sparring session with Frankie Gavin, then he can wind down completely.
“The sparring has been brilliant, because Frankie is a southpaw and so is Jones.”
