ANGLING: MEDLOCK Bridge AC kindly donated their Park Lake water free of charge for the Harry Cumpsty memorial match, which raised £260 for his favourite charity, Help For Heroes.
Darren Webb took top spot thanks to 12lb 14oz of chub, roach and a solitary tench which fell to hemp and caster at 12 metres.
Runner-up Mick Lowe claimed roach and chub weighing 10lb 9oz, while third-placed Geoff Robinson took tench and roach adding up to 9lb.
The first of two Medlock Bridge open matches saw Fred Prudham lead the way with 9lb 11oz of chub and skimmers.
Billy Brierley (Team HB) followed with chub, roach and perch amounting to 9lb 6oz, and Martin Taylor’s net was just an ounce lighter, comprising roach and chub.
In the second contest, Gilders rod Pete Cuniffe caught loads of skimmers, chub and roach on caster, ending on 18lb 12oz.
Robert Kelsall was next with a similar net (18lb), ahead of Bob Harrison (Team HB), with 10lb 12oz of skimmers, tench, roach and chub.
PETE Finney won the first Monarch AC match on club water courtesy of a 17lb 2oz catch weighing skimmers, ide and roach that fell to maggot.
Second spot went to Mick Diskin with an almost identical catch of 15lb 6oz, while Pete Bloor was third with 14lb 4oz of carp, skimmers and roach.
Dave Ireland clinched victory in the second match, his chopped worm and caster enticing chub, roach and skimmers totalling 17lb 8oz.
He was followed by Dean Pickering’s 10lb 10oz of chub and skimmers — which is what made up John Clay’s net (7lb 8oz).
CRANBERRY AC’s meeting on Partridge Lakes saw Mark Eaton-Dykes take first with small carp and ide (27lb).
Tony Lees (21lb) was second, beating third-placed Jack Cubby, who got 18lb.
IAN Cox won the George Whiting memorial match on Tanners Dam, where Diggle AC and Eight Bells AC battled it out in a challenge match.
Ian’s 13lb 4oz of carp beat Diggle team-mate Dave Machin, who took carp and other bits which weighed 8lb 14oz.
In third, Martin Taylor found 7lb 15oz of skimmers and roach. Diggle won the contest 44lb 1oz - 28lb 3oz.
HIGHFIELD Fisheries hosted Lees and Hey’s latest event, and Steve Sharples won it courtesy of his carp haul (38lb 4oz).
Paul Mason settled for second with 25lb 8oz of ide and small carp, while Steve Blackburn mustered 24lb 8oz of carp and ide.
WINNER of the Eight Bells AC match on Hampton Springs Long Island Lake was Dave Phillips.
Pellet and worm accounted for 46lb 2oz of carp, the biggest of which came in at 9lb.
Adge Agecroft was runner-up thanks to carp, skimmers and silvers which made up 31lb 2oz, and Andy Hilton’s 21lb 10oz of carp — including the catch of the day (11lb 11oz) — was enough to seal third place.
Section triumphs went to Eric Baguley (16lb 2oz), Dave Handley (19lb 2oz), Will Self (6lb 10oz) and Steve Brooks (17lb 3oz).
VENUE GUIDE
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Still not fishing as well as usual although the warm weather is sure to have switched the fish on a bit. Expect some decent chub, bream and carp with chopped worm and pellet all worth a go.
Rochdale Canal – Roach and skimmers showing to all baits. Pegs behind the vinegar works for roach and skimmers. Odd tench and bream behind the bungalows at Middleton junction.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Ide and carp to paste and caster.
Park Lake – Hemp and caster seems to be winning a few matches on here now but maggot is always a good bet for the many chub, roach and skimmers. Pellet still taking fish.
