CRICKET: EXPERIENCE and youth stood shoulder-to-shoulder to lead Heyside to a thrilling one-wicket victory at Austerlands in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

At 80 for nine in reply to 123 all out, the lads from Little Hey Street were staring defeat in the face.

But Stuart Moore, who had earlier collected five for 27, weighed in with an unbeaten 35 and put on 44 priceless runs with under-17s player Robertson.

The teenager's only scoring shot won the game - a boundary off Austerlands professional Humayun Farhat.

Despite the victory, Heyside have dropped one place to third as nine wins on the spin have propelled Saddleworth up to second.

Shaw were their latest victims, Steven Howard’s in-form side romping home by 104 runs at Well-i-Hole.

Matt Cook made 72 in Saddleworth’s total of 201 for nine - overseas amateur Jawad Haq claimed six for 56 - before they dismissed Shaw for 97. Pro Peter Skuse and Ryan McGrath bagged four wickets apiece.

Leaders Uppermill were emphatic winners over local rivals Greenfield at Leefields.

Pakistani paid man Imran Aslam did his bit with bat and ball, scoring 42 out of 223 for nine, and then taking six for 29 in the visitors’ reply of 74 all out.

Captain Alex Griffiths hit 44 for Uppermill, while Josh Higgins and overseas amateur Rahul Panta picked up four for 58 and four for 76 respectively for Greenfield, who have slipped to third from bottom.

Bamford Fieldhouse are on the fringes of the top five after sweeping aside Friarmere by nine wickets at Hollin Lane.

Simon Wright took four for 19 as the visitors were shot out for 103. Darren Shadford, playing against his former club, top scored with 33.

Bamford pro Grant Hodnett was unbeaten on 55 in reply.

Half-centuries from paid man Ahmed Butt and Aamir Afzal lifted Hollinwood to a 243 for five at home to Moorside.

That proved far too many for Lloyd Kingston’s strugglers, who were restricted to 131.

Shakeel Saddique claimed five for 29 as Mudassar Butt’s men registered a third win in their last four games.

Aqib Uppal, with 60, and Wasim Qasim (five for 52) were Droylsden’s leading performers in condemning Glodwick to a fourth straight defeat in the league.

The home side made 204 for nine in a match reduced to 41 overs per side.

Despite 89 from opener Mark Whitehead, Glodwick were dismissed for 159 in reply, but remain fifth in the table, seven points ahead of Bamford.
