Age no barrier to super Squires

ALAN SQUIRES
GOLF: AS a golfer, you know you must be doing something right when you can shoot your age.
And that’s exactly what Oldham’s evergreen stalwart Alan Squires achieved when equalling his own course record during the Captain’s Final and Spoon at the club.
The 62-year-old Squires, reigning English Seniors champion and four times the winner of the Lancashire title, needed just 62 shots to negotiate his home course at the weekend.
But his heroics were not enough to earn him victory – or a chance of it – in Oldham’s latest competition.
The event has been whittled down to three potential winners after they returned two-round scores of net 128. Lee Blainey (65+63=128), Alex Simmons (65+63=128) and Ian Radcliffe (66+62=128) will fight it out next Wednesday.
