Butt’s blitz spurs Delph

CRICKET: FAISAL Butt was in outstanding form as Delph progressed to the semi-finals of the Huddersfield League’s Twenty20 competition after seeing off the challenge of Elland at home.

Batting first, Grant Jones’ side posted 233 for four, with Butt recording 156 off 70 balls.

His innings took one hour and three minutes, and included 14 fours and 13 sixes.

In reply, the determined Greg Finn plundered an undefeated 75 off 50 deliveries, but the damage was done and Elland were restricted to 184 for six.

Butt’s superb display was reminiscent of his performance last season in the same competition.

In a home clash with Armitage Bridge, he produced an unbeaten 173 to seal a last-eight spot.

Delph secretary Les Harrison said: “Faisal was absolutely fantastic against Elland.

“I think Twenty20 games are perfect for his game, he always seems to do well in these ties, as he demonstrated last season by scoring even more runs against Armitage Bridge.

“It was no surprise to see him do so well again.

“It is a shame that he has not broken the competition record for the biggest innings in a Twenty20 match but on both occasions he has not been far off.

“Now we can look forward to the next round and hopefully a home tie in tonight’s draw.”

The semi-finals get under way at 6.30pm on Friday, July 22, with the draw made at Golcar tonight (7.30pm).

Honley, Golcar and Skelmanthorpe make up the rest of the teams in the last-four.
