Cranberry contest is a family affair

ANGLING:
FATHER and son Steven and Mark Eaton-Dykes dominated affairs in Cranberry AC’s meeting at Blundells Fisheries on Willow Lake.
Dad Steven triumphed with 20lb of skimmers, roach and ide that fell to maggot, with runner-up Mark weighing in with a similar 15lb net. Jack Cubby was next with silvers and skimmers (12lb).
THERE is no stopping Dave Ireland in the Monarch AC series — he won yet another match on the club water, leading the way with 18lb 2oz of chub, skimmers and crucians.
Runner-up Dave White mustered roach, skimmers and ide adding up to 17lb 2oz, while John Clare followed to the tune of 12lb 2oz of skimmers and tench.
THE Saddleworth and District Angling Society members-only match on Eagle Mill Dam was a cracker.
Brian Murphy took top spot, with his pellet fished over chopped worm and caster tempting skimmers and bream weighing 16lb 8oz, followed by Ian Wilcox’s tench, golden rudd, roach and skimmers (10lb 5oz). Fenton Tenant took third spot. He caught 9lb of tench, roach and crucians.
GIDEON Orr won the Diggle AC contest on Tanners Dam courtesy of a 22lb 12oz net comprising six small carp and half-a-dozen skimmers. Organiser Ian Walvin (Gilders) was next with three carp adding up to 12lb 13oz. In third, Martin Taylor’s 9lb was made up of roach, carp and skimmers.
MEDLOCK Bridge action saw Bob Harrison rule Park Lake thanks to 13lb 2oz of skimmers, tench and roach.
Mark Webb was runner-up with roach, chub, skimmers and tench ensuring a 12lb 10oz finish.
Martin Taylor came third, taking 9lb 1oz of roach and chub.
In the second contest, Steve Hall’s roach, perch, skimmers and bream (13lb 12oz) were enough to win it. Next up was Martin Taylor, who caught 11lb 3oz of roach and skimmers.
James Cantello was third with small roach and perch weighing 8lb 12oz.
CHRIS Lett won the Todmorden match on Croft, accounting for 35lb 10oz of carp.
Tom Barlow claimed second position with plenty of carp (23lb 10oz) and Hall earned third place with a similar net (20lb 4oz).
The second Todmorden meeting saw Dean Turner head the field with 4lb 1oz of silvers, followed by Craig Howarth (2lb) and Frank Szakaley (1lb 10oz).
VENUE GUIDE
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Some reports of big chub being caught on Saddleworth water with pellet the favoured hookbait.
Rochdale Canal – Plenty of small fish showing to red maggot. Pegs down near Foxdenton lane for plenty of jack pike. Some bream and tench on Boarshaw and slattocks to caster and corn. Pellet also worth a try.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Plenty of fish being caught with paste down the edge for carp whilst caster and maggot is catching ide up in the water.
Park Lake – Maggot, caster and pellet all taking plenty of fish. Day tickets on bank.
