BOXING:

DARREN Stubbs has gone the extra mile in preparation for tomorrow night’s showdown with Bob Ajisafe — 350 miles to be precise.

Such was the 39-year-old Shaw fighter’s determination to make his mark on the undercard of Craig Watson v Lee Purdy at Oldham Sports Centre, he bought a running device that records how much distance one has covered.

“I have run 350 miles in eight weeks,” said Stubbs.

“I never big myself up to a ridiculous extent, but I know I will be fitter than anyone on Saturday.

“It is going to be tough — Ajisafe is a good fighter and a tricky southpaw, but I am confident.”

Stubbs also expressed his delight at being given the opportunity to fight on home soil.

“I am glad the show is coming to Oldham,” he added.

“There should be plenty of support on the night. If I am beaten I am beaten, but I can tell you my preparation could not have been better.”
