GOLF:
THE same two local clubs will clash in the final of the Oldham and District Golf League’s KO Cup for the second successive season.
Holders Crompton and Royton ‘A’ will meet Werneth ‘A’ after both safely negotiated semi-finals.
Gary Melling’s C&R side have struggled in the league, but found their best form in this competition.
They were up in all games by the turn against Stamford ‘A’ at Saddleworth and were in an unassailable 4-0 lead before calling in the last game.
Werneth — beaten 3-2 in the final last year — will now be back for revenge.
They had a tough time making it through against Saddleworth at Crompton and Royton despite getting two early wins on the board.
Eventually they had to wait until father-and-son combination Paul and Adam Rowbotham delivered a last-green success in the fading light for a 3-2 scoreline.
THERE will be ‘B’ team in the final of the supplementary Plate KO competition after Ashton and Stamford’s second strings were drawn together in the semi finals.
Blackley ‘A’ meet Dukinfield ‘A’ in the other tie.
