Tonge remain on track for title

BOWLS: TONGE continued their charge towards the Manchester Premier League title with an emphatic 12-4 win at Lower Hopton.
They boasted six winners in moving 23 points clear of St Joseph’s at the top of the table.
On the mark were Andrew Cairns (21-13), Jimmy Derby (21-8), Gary Ellis (21-11), Nicky Brooks (21-13), Stuart Mort (21-12) and Tommy Dobson (21-14).
With no game next midweek, Tonge can recharge their batteries for the trip to St Joseph’s on Wednesday, August 3.
MIDDLETON know victory over Leeds ‘A’ on Sunday (2pm) will clinch them a place in the third division of the Federation for next season.
The home venue, Tonge BC, features local players Wilf McDermott, Alan Hodson, Steve Copeland and Jimmy Hynes.
And Middleton’s team away from home contains last year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Handicap winner Gary Coverdale (North Chadderton) and Tonge players Dave Dance, Darren Wardle, Dave Conroy, Steve Squire, Donny Wilkinson, Ged Smedley and Nicky Brooks.
THERE are still places available in the Dr Kershaw’s pairs competition at the Shaw Royal British Legion Club, Farrow Street, on Sunday, September 4.

THE women’s county team are away to mid-Cheshire, at the Red Lion, Frodsham, on Sunday.
Local players involved are D Bowker (Oldham RU), A Tickle, C Kewley, J Pertoldi (all Springbank), R Fish, K Houlston, E Dawson (Delph), J Lord, M Brooks (Grapes), J Horton (Diggle).
THE Oldham Indoor League is urgently seeking new teams for its competitions starting in September.
The men's Tuesday night league needs one team, the men's Thursday night league requires two fresh sides and and the ladies' Monday night league is seeking either a new team or individuals interested in making up a new one.
