Woodhouses one step from Lord’s

CRICKET: WOODHOUSES are through to the semi-finals of the Persimmon Village Cup after a superb performance at Stainsby Hall.

Josh Tolley’s 77 pushed the visitors towards 228 for eight, then Ashley Prescott (three for 22) and Callum Meagram (three for none) excelled as Stainsby were dismissed for 117.

Woodhouses — now just one win away from a dream final at Lord’s — entertain holders Sessay in the semi-final on August 7.

A busy weekend also saw Woodhouses earn a four-wicket triumph at Prestwich in a top-of-the-table clash in Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One.

The Medlock Road outfit fielded their second string at Flowery Field 24 hours later. Flowery made 195 for one before dismissing Mike Cassidy’s men for 152.

Woodhouses did not want to play the fixture on the same day as the Village Cup clash but were told by league officials the game would go ahead.


DRAKES Huddersfield Premiership action saw Delph slip to a narrow defeat against Shepley.
Faisal Butt made 93 as Delph recorded 185 for seven, but Shepley reached their goal with two balls and two wickets to spare.


LANCASHIRE cruised to an eight–wicket win over Unicorns to pick up only their third Clydesdale Bank 40 victory of the season.
After bowling out Unicorns out for 179, Junaid Khan claiming four wickets, Lancashire reached their victory target with a massive 12 overs to spare, finishing on 182 for two at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club Ground.

A day earlier, they had given their LV= County Championship Division One title hopes a huge boost with victory over Yorkshire in a roller-coaster Roses encounter.
