Werneth pick up Pro-Am plaudits

GOLF: WERNETH has been praised by the PGA North after hosting a hugely successful Pro-Am at the Garden Suburb course.
A total of 34 teams took part alongside some of the region’s top professionals in the Joseph Parr (Alco) Ltd sponsored event that was played out in glorious
sunshine for the full 136-man field until a perfectly-timed heavy downpour as the last players exited the 18th green.
Despite pre-event suggestions that the seven-under-par 61 course record would be shattered, the joint winners could only manage four-under 64.
They were current Captain of Lancashire David Smith (Swinton Park GC) and Chris Crowder (Lee Park) with five players sharing third a further shot back.
Roofmasters — made up of home players James Buckley, Adam Rowbotham and Saddleworth’s Gary Simpson — took the team title with a two-to-count medal score of 118 (-18).
That was sweet for Adam as they edged out the Harmony Blinds team of dad Paul, brother Lee and cousin Alan Palmer on 119 (-17).
The minor prizes went to Three Amigos (120), Thornhill Heating Exchange (122, CPO) and Rhodes Construction (122).
