SWIMMER Jessica Fullalove is another local sport star on course for London 2012, writes CHRIS LYNHAM.
The Hulme Grammar School pupil’s chances of selection were boosted by some eye-catching performances at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade.
After claiming bronze in the 100 metre freestyle and silver in 4x100m relay, she was part of the 4x100m individual medley relay team which clinched gold.
Fullalove (14) produced a superb first 100m and, after the efforts of Marie O’Connor and Georgia Barton, 15-year-old Jessica Lloyd – another swimmer doing Oldham proud — came up with a storming freestyle display to seal victory over close challengers Russia.
While Fullalove must continue to demonstrate good form between now and next summer, she has been encouraged by receipt of a letter from the Great Britain coaches informing her that a consistent level of performance will be rewarded with a coveted place in the squad.
Her next chance to shine comes on August 16 in the World Junior Championships.
Mum Suzanne said: “We are so proud of Jessica for her achievements. The Belgrade experience was brilliant. It is not easy to go out there and make such a big impression.
“The Great Britain coaches have told her to keep doing what she is doing and hopefully the hard work will be rewarded at the end of it.”
