Rugby League:

IAN Scott is aiming to relive his Wembley dream at the end of this month.

Last year the Springhead rugby league match official was chosen to referee at the Carnegie Champion Schools National Finals at the famous sporting venue.

And the 18-year-old made such a good impression he has been invited back to compete for the Challenge Cup final curtain-raiser, with six other highly-rated hopefuls.
Unsuccessful candidates will be handed other jobs for the August 28 tournament, including touch judge.

Scott said: “Like last time, we will travel down a couple of days beforehand and each of us will referee a match. The best will be picked for the big one.

“Hopefully I get the nod again, but obviously I do not know who I am competing with and I am sure they are all very good.

“Last summer’s experience was just awesome and it would be amazing to repeat it. I will be taking my family with me again.”

Scott, who heads to Sheffield University next month to study property development, has gone from strength-to-strength since supervising St Peters and Paul versus Castleford High in last year’s Year 10 boys’ national final.

He now oversees Extended Scholarship games and high-profile reserve matches, including Friday’s clash between Salford and Leeds.

Scott added: “Refereeing is all about gaining experience and that is exactly what I have managed to do over the last 12 months.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the process and feel I have made good progress.

“Fingers crossed I can cap off the summer with another memorable day at Wembley.”
