RUGBY UNION — and GOLF: OLDHAM RUFC warm up for the North Lancashire Division One season with a match against local rivals Littleborough at Manor Park on Saturday.
Club officials are hoping to organise another friendly game before the campaign gets under way at home to Bury on Saturday, September 3.
Meanwhile, John Jenkinson, Alan Penning, Jim Sharkey and Jeremy Hall, who is captain of Ashton Golf Club, teamed up to win the Oldham RUFC Golf Day at Brookdale.
They were one of eight teams taking part in the Stableford format.
The quartet amassed 111 points — best three scores to count on each hole — to edge out Mel Garner and his team of Derek Cunane, Arthur Hughes and Alan Saville with 109 points.
Oldham president Paul Walsh presented the team prize to the winners, along with nearest the pin to Andy Tabern (20ft) and longest drive to Karl Conway (approximately 250 yards).
