Saddleworth eye final glory

GOLF:
SADDLEWORTH are through to the final of the Lancashire Women’s Championships after victory over local rivals Oldham at Whitefield.
Despite a grey start, some excellent golf was played, with Saddleworth emerging victorious in six of the seven matches.
The best game saw Saddleworth’s Sue Brierley defeat Janet Kershaw on the first extra hole.
Jane Antrobus was Oldham’s only winner, beating Eileen Moores 3&2.
Saddleworth will meet Deane at Wigan in the final on Monday, with the winners going on to represent the South East in the Regional Championships.

JULIE Barton and Andrea Lowe completed a hat-trick of wins in Crompton and Royton’s Open fourball.
The pair, from the home club, lifted the coveted rose bowl for the third year on the spin with a 43-points haul.
The runners-up with 42 points were Chris Rimmer, also from Crompton and Royton, and Irene Divine (Rossendale).
Francis Moore and Eleanor Bell, of Rochdale, had the best visitors score of 39 points.
And Julie had another reason to celebrate. She bagged the Marks Cup with a combined score of 195- 53-142.
The runner-up on a card play-off was Margaret Butterworth (187-38-149).
Meanwhile, the EWGA medal went to Amanda Delaney, who recorded a superb 77-11-66.
