FOUR members from Werneth blew away the home challenge to claim the Oldham and District team event at Crompton and Royton.
Liam Dwayre, Gareth Hey, Steve Lynch and Clint Shaw won the tournament by four shots.
The quartet fired a 17-under-par total of 139 to finish clear of Crompton and Royton’s Ryan O’Leary, Andy Bottomley and father and son, Chris and Robert Calow, (143, 13 under-par).
Kris Sutcliffe, who was attempting to add the four-man prize to the District Championship, Royton Sword and Crompton and Royton Club Championship, had to settle for third place this time.
Playing with Mike Shaw, Jason Webster and Alistair, they also recorded a 143 total, but were denied runners-up spot on a card play-off.
The best two scores counted on each hole in the medal format, apart from the ninth and 18th when all four went towards the total.
At OLDHAM, Ian Radcliffe bagged the captain’s prize after a three-way play-off.
He recorded a 71 to finish a shot clear of Alex Simmons, with Lee Blainey (73) in third place.
In the first round of the Clegg Cup, Stuart Henson carded a net 62, while Barry Lewis and Steve Ogden carded 63 apiece.
ALAN Newell came out on top in the Vice-President’s Cup and Morris Medal, a major at STAMFORD.
He shot a 78 gross (65 net) in the morning and followed with an 81 gross (68 net) in the afternoon.
Michael Grainger had the best gross with scores of 75 and 73.
