CRICKET: YOUNG Joe Smith-Butler overshadowed his dad, Andy, as Bamford Fieldhouse lifted the Moore Cup on their own ground.
The 14-year-old became one of youngest recipients of the man-of-the-match shield after claiming four for 13 against Hollinwood at Hollin Lane.
Andy, for so long a first-team regular at Bamford until injuries caught up with the left-arm spinner, said: “A few people had great pleasure in telling me to keep my gear in the loft from now on after Joe’s performance.
“It’s the best I’ve seen him bowl. He used the conditions really well and was swinging it both ways.”
Bamford, who recorded an eight-wicket victory, were making up for cup-final agony of 12 months ago.
Captain Michael Drew said: “This made up for last year when, on the last ball, we lost to Austerlands.”
