Tonge move step closer to retaining title

BOWLS: TONGE strengthened their grip on the Manchester Premier League title race when they defeated Liverpool outfit Richmond 11-3 (205-137).
Winners for Tonge were Andrew Cairns (21-15), Jimmy Derby (21-15), Nicky Brooks (21-1), Matt Gillies (21-10), Steve Squire (21-17), Thomas Dobson (21-13), Stuart Mort (21-17) and Gary Ellis (21-7).
Tonge, the holders, travel to the Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton, next Wednesday (7.30pm).
THE Saddleworth Bowling League’s Law Swallow Cup semi-finals and final will be played at Springhead Liberal Club on Sunday (10.30am).
GREATER Manchester juniors take on Warwick and Worcester in the County Championship semi-finals on Sunday (2pm).
The home venue is Royton Park, Bleasdale Street, Royton, and one of the players in action there is Jake Dearden (Friezland).
Among those playing for Manchester at Great Barr BC, Birmingham, is Jordan Barker (Wrigley Mill).
NORDEN BC hosts the Thwaites men’s pairs finals on Sunday (5.30pm) when Oldham interest will be carried by Paul Heap and Ben Stapleton.

The finals of the AC Ventilation Ltd women’s pairs will be held at the same time.
SEMI-FINALS of the Oldham Women’s League’s Peter Wild Cup will be held tonight (6.45pm).
Moorside ‘A’ (16) will play Hollinwood Cricket ‘B’ (32) at North Chadderton, while Dunwood (16) take on Shaw Comrades (32) at Hollinwood Cricket Club.
PLACES are available in the Delph Men’s Open on Fridays (6.30pm) and Saturdays (2pm) September 2, 3, 9 and 10. It costs £6 to enter and places can be secured by ringing John Atkinson on (0161) 681 2486.
