Sami skittles strugglers

CRICKET:

CROMPTON have opened up clear daylight over bottom club Ashton in the Lake Garage CLL after winning the basement battle of the two clubs at Glebe Street on Saturday.

The hosts made 162 for eight – visiting professional Ben Johnson taking four for 76 – before Ashton were skittled for a meagre 51 as Sami Ullah (five for 26) ran amok.

Royton were also in dominant form at Walsden, winning by nine wickets.

In a match reduced to 27 overs per side, the hosts made a respectable 150 for seven, pro Dumina Perera hitting 45.

But Royton raced to 152 for one thanks to paid man Luke Procter (78 not out) and Liam Mason (51 not out).

Oldham lost by six wickets at Wood Cup winners Middleton, who made 153 for four in reply to 150 all out. Paul Thompson hit an unbeaten 57 for Oldham, while Middleton’s Danny Core took five for 48.

Werneth went down by 71 runs at home to Heywood, for whom Bobby Cross hit 86 and pro Andrea Agathangelou 59 in a total of 199 for six off 40 overs. Joe Taylor took three for 54.

Werneth were then restricted to 128 for nine as spinner Rob Slawson picked up five for 59.
