Smith top of the tree at Oldham

GOLF: ANN Smith won the Lady Captain’s Prize at Oldham with a two-round net score of 134.
Close behind on 135 was Edith Turner, while the best gross score was 154 by Bev Scholes.
First-day prize went to Liz Johnson for her 62, while second-day honours were secured by Jane Antrobus with 65.
The subsidiary prize went to Florence Jacks (25 points), while there were two other presentations on the night.
Karen Phanco won the first sweep with 140, and the second sweep went to Mary Buckley with 143.
The subsidiary prize was collected by Florence Jacks.
The Lady President’s (Jane Birkby) Stableford prize went to Linda Hall, who amassed 40 points. Beryl Martin won the subsidiary section with 16 points.
And the Lady Vice-Captain’s (Sheila Antrobus) trophy went to Jane Antrobus, who scored 37 Stableford points.
Janet Kershaw was runner-up with 34, while Beryl Martin once again clinched subsidiary honours with 12. The other Oldham presentation was made to Bev Scholes and Jane Antrobus, whose 74.5 clinched the Past Captains of Manchester and District Trophy at Townscliffe Golf Club.
