FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON go to Atherton Collieries tonight in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One looking to recover from their 8-2 home defeat against Cheadle Town in the extra preliminary stage.
Boss Paul Buckley intends to ring the changes after suffering such a heavy defeat to a side in the same division.
He said: “I will pick at least four or five different players for the Atherton game because we simply were not good enough against Cheadle.”
The host found themselves 3-1 down after 26 minutes, with Ben Brookes putting the visitors in front (18) and Paul Walley bagging a double (24 and 26).
Keith Melvin rose to head home a looping Matthew Chadwick corner two minutes later to give the hosts some hope, but James McDonagh netted for Cheadle just before half-time.
McDonagh extended the lead soon after the interval, and Andrew Lindon got in on the act after 65
minutes, Lindon completed his brace with 12 minutes left on the clock, and after Chadwick grabbed a consolation for Chadderton, there was still time for Brookes to get his second goal of the game to cap a resounding victory for the away outfit.
Buckley added: "Heads went down, which is obviously disappointing.
"Cheadle were virtually out of sight after their first three goals.”
OLDHAM Boro came from behind to claim a superb 3-1 victory at AFC Darwen in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
Gary Brown broke the deadlock for the home team after just two minutes, but Redmond Parker restored parity five minutes later.
Parker struck again with half-time rapidly approaching, handing Tony Mills' side a psychological advantage going into the break.
Brandon Parker-Stone ensured the three points when he got on the scoresheet in the dying seconds of the match.
MOSSLEY suffered a 4-0 loss at home to Woodley Sports in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
Jordan Stepien gave the visitors a flying start by finding the net after nine minutes.
Lilywhites chief Gareth McClelland introduced Sam Halligan, Tom Ingham and Mark Innes in search of an equaliser.
But a late collapse put paid to any hopes of even a point. Jack Dorney doubled Woodley's lead with three minutes left, followed almost instantly by goals from substitute Mark Haslam and Danny Shannon.
