Taylor’s knock in vain for Werneth

CRICKET: A SEASON which promised much for Werneth is threatening to fizzle out following a weekend of disappointment in the Lake Garage CLL.

Saturday’s loss at the hands of Monton and Weaste — see other story — was followed by defeat at champions elect Norden.

Matt Taylor made 59 in Werneth’s 149 all out, Chris Humphries taking seven for 26.

And Norden passed that total for the loss of eight wickets thanks to professional Michael Price’s knock of 57. Michael Wilson had season’s-best figures of six for 46.

Royton’s march up the table continued with a three-wicket win at Radcliffe, who took first guard and made 114. Pro Anwar Ul-Haq hit 55, while Liam Brown collected four for 21.

Royton made heavy weather of reaching that modest total, but eventually did so for the loss of seven wickets.

Deputy pro Mohammed Zaman Khan scored 30 and Michael Burns took five for 53.

Oldham and Crompton both suffered defeat.

At the Pollards, Clifton made 217 for six with Chris Lord hitting 45 and Andy Griffiths 43.

Oldham were then dismissed for a disappointing 79, Clifton paid man Hendro Puchert taking six for 35 and Chris Jennings four for 34.

Crompton went down by 38 runs at Glebe Street, where Walsden batted first and made 168 for six. Martin Harlow scored 38, Jake Howarth 36 and Sami Ullah picked up three for 42.

In reply, Crompton were bowled out for 130 despite 31 from Majid Khan and 30 from Darren Lee. Elliott Gilford took three for 13 and Harlow three for 25.
