BOWLS: ROBBIE Fitzpatrick (Merseyside) landed the £700 top prize in the Moorside Classic on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick defeated Ashley Daykin (Huddersfield) 21-18 in a terrific final.
He had earlier seen off the challenge of Nimble Nook and Tonge star Gary Ellis, the season’s most prolific winner on the open handicap circuit.
Losing semi-finalists were Audenshaw’s Graeme Wilson and Radcliffe’s Paul Dudley.
Springbank’s Steve Copeland bowed out 21-20 in the quarter-finals to Dudley, while last-16 casualties included local players Dave Carpenter, Lee Lawton and Jonathan Copeland.
