Werneth pass test of nerve

GOLF: WERNETH’S mixed foursomes team pulled off a remarkable win at North Manchester to book a place in the semi-finals of the Archie Preston Trophy.
With all the matches extremely close, Werneth's pairings held their nerve on the Rhodes course to claim a shock 4.5-2.5 win.
There were wins for Captain Quentin Cartwright and Lady Vice-Captain Fiona Dooley (1up), Vice-Captain Lee Rowbotham and Madge Griffiths (1up), Les Dooley and Glynis Jones (1 up) and Paul Rowbotham and Brenda Martin (2 and 1).
John Yemm and Sheila Waterhouse were all square after 18 holes, but the win was secured by that stage and they had no need to head down the 19th.
