CRICKET: FORMER Greenfield wicketkeeper-batsman Chris Gill played a starring role as the Drakes Huddersfield League retained the White Rose Trophy.

The opener struck a superb 130 to set up a comfortable 54-run victory over North Yorkshire and South Durham League at Honley.

Man-of-the-match Gill carried his bat as the Huddersfield League’s under-21s, captained by Delph’s Aaron Lilley, made 25 for eight from their 50 overs.

The Broad Oak player and son of current Greenfield all-rounder, Peter, faced 142 balls in total, hitting 17 fours and a six.

Lilley finished with figures of three for 19 as the visitors were limited to 171.

Gill also played a pivotal role for the Huddersfield League in the semi-final, scoring an unbeaten 143.

HEYSIDE first XI take on the ‘Old School’ to raise money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice on Sunday (2pm).
The 30-over match, at Little Hey Street, is being held in memory of former player and secretary Dave Firth, who died last year.

Programmes will be on sale, with a raffle and auction to follow in the evening.

Organisers would like to thank Brian Cutler and Jimmy Griffith for agreeing to umpire the match.
