FOOTBALL: AVRO and Springhead both enjoyed a double tonic in the latest round of fixtures in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
Phil Brown’s title hopefuls Avro roared to a 5-1 triumph at Old Alts through a Paddy Garmary brace and further efforts from James Hampton, Lee O’Brien and Chris Howells.
They followed it up by winning 5-0 at West Didsbury, where Hampton and Howells got two goals apiece and Garmary was also on target.
Brown said: “It is pleasing to see us score so many goals — that is 17 since the start of the season.
“I think it is a good sign that the goals are being shared around, we have several lads with three or four to their name already.
“Apart from a couple of slips against Monton a fortnight ago we are also defending well.”
And after edging out visitors Stockport Georgians 1-0 courtesy of a Jack Barnes strike, Springhead enjoyed more home comfort in the 6-2 demolition of Heywood St James.
On the mark were Mark Hopwood and Scott Owen who both bagged braces, Richard Bennett and Dale Jackman.
UPPERMILL romped to a 5-1 victory over Moldgreen on the opening day of the Huddersfield and District League Division One season.
Gareth Chew, Tommy Bunn, Kris Ventress, Murray Hill and Bobby Greenwood netted for Simon Tait’s side. Diggle drew 1-1 with Shepley.
CHAMPIONS Failsworth Dynamos got their title defence off to a flying start with a
4-0 win at Howe Bridge Mills in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division.
However there was no such delight for Chaddertonians, who went down to a 2-0 defeat at Bury GSOB.
