BOWLS: NIMBLE Nook and Tonge star Gary Ellis has joined an elite band of bowlers to have won 100 open competitions.

Success in the Grange Classic on Saturday took him to three figures, while the following night’s victory in the £2,600 Wharton Cons Open made it 101 titles during his illustrious bowling career.

Despite the continued success of Graeme Wilson, Ellis is now widely regarded as the game’s number one player.

Saturday’s win in Stockport was swiftly followed by success in the Wharton event which saw Ellis give a master class to beat Steve Morrey 31-13 in the final.

With the Waterloo Handicap and Portugal Masters looming in the next couple of months, this season could turn out to be Ellis’s best season.

He has already won 11 titles this summer and his insatiable appetite for success shows no sign of waning.
