Rivals out to ruin club’s bid for more silverware
HEYSIDE and Shaw are doing their level best to scupper Uppermill’s bid for a bumper trophy haul in the 2011 Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.

Division One honours were decided a couple of weeks ago — the lads from Leefields will be handed the Hollingworth Cup before Saturday’s home match against Bamford Fieldhouse — but three prizes remain in the melting pot.

Uppermill are in with a big shout in every one. Could they make it a four-timer? Only time will tell.

The race for top spot in Division Two sees Heyside, who last won the section in 2004, leading the way.

They have a 32-point advantage over Uppermill, but have played a game more.

Uppermill appear to have the Brennand Trophy tied up.

Awarded to the club with most points in Divisions One and Two combined, only Heyside, the holders, have a chance of catching them.

Shaw are setting the pace in the John Bacon Trophy.

However, Uppermill once again boast a match in hand, which could prove significant when the campaign reaches its conclusion on September 11.

The John Bacon is dished out to the club with the highest number of points in Divisions One and Two combined over the last six games of the season.

On the individual front, Adam Brown has one hand on the Neil Parish Trophy for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper.

The Glodwick ’keeper has 36 victims — 22 catches and 14 stumpings.

THIS season’s Twenty20 Cup final between Heyside, the hosts, and Saddleworth has been rearranged for Saturday, September 10 (2pm).

The match was due to take place on August Bank Holiday Monday, but was postponed because of rain.

If there is no play, a bowl-out or, as a last resort, the toss of a coin will take place to decide the winner.
