SOME of Woodhouses’ unsung heroes are heading to Lord’s on Sunday to watch the side battle for Village Cup final glory against Rottingdean.
Club advisor and former player Dave Hardman has heaped praise on stewards Bob and Callum Thompson and tea lady Tracey Cook, who will be watching son Callum Megram in action for the Medlock Road outfit.
Hardman said: “Bob has been with the club for a long time. He played for the first and second team in the early 1970s and like his dad Stan — who took hundreds of wickets for Prestwich — he was a swing bowler.
“After his playing days came to an end he expressed an interest in running the bar, and he eventually returned to the club as steward around 20 years ago alongside wife Ann.
“Their son Callum, who also spent some time as a junior player at Woodhouses, now assists Bob behind the bar and they do a tremendous job.
“Tracey became tea lady about eight years ago. Her son Callum Megram is a key part of the Woodhouses side after coming through the ranks, and Tracey’s husband Terry runs the under-17s and provides the club with a lot of help.”
Hardman is delighted to see those who dedicate their time getting a day out to one of the most symbolic venues in cricket.
He added: “They all deserve it because they have spent years giving their time and energy to the cause.”
