Hanson bags Clegg Cup joy

GOLF: STUART Hanson, thanks to net rounds of 62 and 69 for a 131 total, claimed the Clegg Cup at Oldham.
The overall runner-up was Barry Lewis (63-70-133), with Sean Dixon (69-65-134) in third place.
Leading the way in the second round was Damian Chadwick, who posted a net 59 to win on a card play-off from Colin Kost (59), with Dale Chandler (63) next-best.
Oldham staged their first women and junior competition, a greensome format over nine holes.
And the winners on a card play-off, registering 21 points, were Linda Hall and Ellis Hallwood.
Second were Sue Boothby and Ellis Gittings.
A NET score of 136 saw Dean Jagger take the President’s Prize at Saddleworth. Ben Chadderton (138 nett) was second, with Ian Charnock (139 nett).
ANDY Earlam, with two rounds of 69 for a net total of 138, won the ‘Captain’s Weekend’ at Stamford.
The runner-up was Keith Hayes (67-72-139 net), with Dave Lewis (68-72-140 net) in third place.
Liam Loughlin, the Lancashire under-15s champion, bagged the ‘Junior Captain’s Weekend’ after shooting two net 73s for 146.
PAUL Green won the singles’ category at Brookdale Golf Club's President's finals day, beating Chris Gleave one up.
RICK Fish won the Housing Units’ ninth annual charity golf day at Saddleworth Golf Club — on one of the wettest days in August.
The competition netted £3,000 for a new charity, In Your Hands. Its aim is to raise £200,000 to buy equipment for the new women and
children’s centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
Fish, a 35-year-old sales manager from Ashton, walked off with a £300 Housing Units gift voucher.
MARILYN Griffin emerged victorious in the ‘breakthrough brooch’, an EWGA Medal competition, at Werneth. She recorded a score of 100-27-73.
The Division One first prize went to Brenda Martin (99-24-75), from Sheila Waterhouse (100-24-76).
There was a tie for the first prize in Division Two, between Sylvia Grant (111-36-75) and Susan Green (107-32-75).
