White earns winter win

Angling: DAVE White won the first match of the Monarch AC winter league series on club water, courtesy of 20lb 11oz of carp and skimmers taken on pole and pellet.


Dave Ireland’s chopped worm and caster method helped yield carp, ide and chub weighing 20lb 5oz, while Chris Woodrup came third with 13lb 14oz of ide and chub.


CRANBERRY AC held their latest meeting on Blundells West, where the top three all recorded more than 20lbs. Winner Jim Wild (29lb) tempted small carp, with Mark Eaton-Dykes (26lb) and Tony Lees (21lb) following suit.

MICK Tighe came out on top in the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake, with big tench, a few chub and roach adding up to 11lb 9oz.

Runner-up Bob Harrison counted for 9lb 13oz of small roach , perch and the odd chub.

Conrad Taylor claimed third place — his skimmers, roach and chub totalled 7lb 7oz.

DRENNAN NW rod Derek Bowers clinched victory in the first of three Todmorden AS contests, which was held on the Castleton length of the Rochdale Canal. Long pole and bread punch accounted for 6lb 15oz of roach.

Simon Walton (Maver) ended up with a 5lb net, followed by Dave Bradley on 4lb 8oz.

The second showdown was on the Croft and Steve Hall led the way, taking 21lb 12oz of carp and ide.

Frank Szakaley’s pole and caster netted 21lb 1oz of ide and carp, and Chris Lett fished pole and meat for carp (12lb 12oz).

Croft also hosted the third meeting, with Steve Buckley winning thanks to 43lb 8oz of big carp.

Pete Mottram’s 23lb 7oz of carp clinched second, and Szakaley (22lb 5oz) was third.

Ogden Reservoir – Still fishing really well for bream and roach. Day tickets on the bank or at Tight Lines in Shaw.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Odd big fish being caught on pellet. Chub on the aqueduct length. Day tickets on the bank.

Rochdale Canal – Bread punch is the bait for plenty of hand sized roach and skimmers. Some big tench showing but these are few and far between.

Chadderton Mill Lodge – Still fishing well for silvers and carp.

Park Lake – Caster producing some good nets of roach, skimmers and chub. Odd big tench showing.
