CRICKET: DELPH skipper Grant Jones will receive Twitter updates on the fortunes of title rivals Honley and Kirkburton tomorrow as the race for top spot in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership reaches its climax.
Third-place Delph — three points behind leaders Honley and one away from Kirkburton in second — entertain Broad Oak.
And while Jones admits his players can only concentrate on their own game, scorer Jamie Harrison will be keeping him updated on the top dogs’ trip to Slaithwaite and the Kirkburton versus Scholes clash.
“We will all be aware of what is going on in the other fixtures because one member of each club signed up to Twitter to share matchday details,” said Jones.
“Jamie can tell us how it is going. It is a shame we are having to rely on other people’s results in our bid to win the league, especially as we were top for most of the season, but this is the situation we are in.
“We played five of the top six teams in August and lost against two of them — they happened to be Honley and Kirkburton.
“All we can do now is concentrate on beating Broad Oak because if we took our eye off the ball and lost this match, and then our two title rivals lost, it would be an awful feeling.
“Whatever happens, it has been a fantastic season, battling it out at the top.”
Micklehurst end their Cedar Court Conference campaign and their last in the Huddersfield League — they are switching to the Saddleworth League next season — at home to Kirkheaton.
FRESH from their memorable Persimmon Village Cup final victory over Rottingdean at Lord’s, Woodhouses travel to Denton St Lawrence tomorrow in the final Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One game of the season.
Mike Cassidy’s side will finish second in the table regardless of the result.
