RUGBY: HOLLINWOOD lost 18-14 at Widnes Tigers in the North-West Counties League Division Three.
A scrappy first half saw plenty of mistakes on both sides, with the hosts taking a 6-0 lead into the interval following a converted try.
Andy Gorey crossed and converted for the away team after the break, before adding a penalty.
Widnes responded with another converted try.
Warren Taylor went over by the corner flag for Hollinwood and Gorey added the extras, but Widnes crossed and goaled at the death to take the win.
HIGGINSHAW were thumped 82-6 at Irlam Hornets in Division Two. The young Higgy side didn’t let their heads drop and debutant Jordan Hanley impressed with a breathless performance. Gareth Brindley also shone.
Tough-tackling Paul Turner got the away outfit’s only try.
FITTON Hill Bulldogs were awarded an 18-0 win in Division Four when opponents Blackpool Scorpions ‘A’ failed to raise a team.
