Springhead run halted

FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD’S good run came to an end with a 4-2 defeat at high-flying Hindsford in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The visitors made a promising start and could have found themselves 2-0 up after 10 minutes had Owen Minnock not missed two golden chances.
However, Minnock made up for it after a quarter-of-an-hour when he nodded home Jack Barnes’ corner.
Hindsford drew level after 27 minutes, Scott Owen putting the ball past goalkeeper Adam Atkins and into his own net.
Five minutes later a mix-up between Colin O’Neil and Dale Jackman allowed a home forward the time and space to give his side the lead.
Barnes and Richard Bennett spurned good opportunities before a Hindsford winger made it 3-1 with a powerful drive on the stroke of half-time.
Two minutes after the restart the hosts extended their lead from a set-piece.
Owen, Bennett and Mark Hopwood went close for Springhead and Hopwood did lash home a consolation with time running out.
Springhead boss Lee McAllister is pleased with the side’s start to the season. He said: “We have done well so far and we are playing some good stuff.”
Elsewhere, last season’s runners-up Avro were beaten 4-2 at home by Walshaw Sports, while Royton Town were edged out 3-2 by visitors Manchester Gregorians.
