Guy Lovegreen pounces on the loose ball after it is spilled by a Windermere player.
RUGBY: OLDHAM RU roared to a 54-8 home victory over Windermere in the North Lancashire Division One.
The Manor Park outfit, who lost to Trafford MV seven days earlier, produced a strong, second-half performance to earn their second win of the season.
Kick-off was delayed for 10 minutes, but once the action got under way Windermere enjoyed plenty of possession and should have made more of their opportunities.
It was Oldham who broke the deadlock when Josh Brown latched on to John Gillam’s pass and crossed, with Gareth Barber adding the extras.
The away outfit responded by kicking a 20th-minute penalty, only for Oldham to touch down on the half-hour mark, Luke Roscoe capping a fine team move and Barber again doing the honours with the kick.
But just before half-time Windermere crashed over the line and trailed 14-8 at the interval.
Two minutes after the restart the floodgates opened.
Jordon McEwen collected Barber’s grubber kick and charged through to score a try converted by Barber, before player-coach Guy Lovegreen dived on a loose ball from a scrum on the visitors’ line.
This secured the bonus points for the hosts.
Gillam, Brown, Barber and Chris Idehen all crossed, with Barber successfully kicking three.
This weekend sees Oldham hit the road to Garstang.
Lovegreen’s team occupy third spot in the table after an encouraging start. Only Trafford MV and St Edwards — both with 100-per-cent records — are in front
