Points search goes on

RUGBY:

HOLLINWOOD are still hunting for their first points in Division Three of the North-West Counties League — but the search could soon end judging by their recent show.

The local side took comfort from a fine display against Pilkington Recs ‘A’, who maintained their 100-per-cent record with a hard-fought 31-12 win.

Hollinwood started brightly. Peter Davies, returning from injury, applied the finishing touch to a length-of-the-field move, collecting the final pass from winger Chris Collins to open the scoring.

Andy Gorey kicked the conversion for a 6-0 lead, and the same player then chipped the ball ahead, only to be knocked off his stride as he burst through.

Peter Jackson crossed for Hollinwood, but the match official ruled he had lost the ball in the tackle and disallowed the try.

Hollinwood went close on several occasions, but it was Pilkington who touched down and the scores were level at the break after the home side gave away a penalty.

Two quick tries, both converted, and a drop goal earlier in the second half put Hollinwood on the back foot.

But they were not done for yet. Davies continued his fine comeback by dribbling the ball past the full-back and winning the race for the line. With Gorey off the field injured, Kevin Collins kicked the goal.

Tiredness gradually crept in to the Hollinwood forward line — Lee Bayliss was high up in his side’s tackle count — and Pilkington took advantage to give the scoreline a flattering look.
