Mossley facing cup exit
Date published: 30 September 2011
MOSSLEY should have been going into tomorrow’s Evo-Stik League Division One clash with Prescot Cables in buoyant mood following their 2-0 win over Curzon Ashton in the Doodson Sport Cup — but they are set to be removed from the competition.
Midfielder Ben McNamara played 77 minutes of the first round triumph, but had not been registered by the Lilywhites to play in the competition.
Club secretary Harry Hulmes issued a statement which read: “Following the excellent team performance against Curzon Ashton, it has come to light that Ben McNamara was not registered with the league in time to play in the match.
“This will undoubtedly result in Mossley losing their place in the next round of the Doodson Sport Cup.
“As club secretary, I accept full responsibility and offer my sincere apologies to the committee, management, players and supporters.”
Mossley are likely to be without wing-back Cavell Coo tomorrow — he limped off against Curzon with a leg injury.
IN the first round of the Vodkat North-West Counties League Challenge Cup, Chadderton entertain Abbey Hey and Oldham Boro host Rochdale Town.
Chadderton boss Paul Buckley and Boro manager Tony Mills have both stated their desire to enjoy a cup run this term.
