Date published: 05 October 2011
GOLF: THE widow of former Oldham captain Terry Kelly has paid tribute to her husband, who has passed away aged 59.
The 11-handicapper from Hollinwood skippered the club in 2008 after lifting the Firth Trophy, the club’s mixed knock-out three times, the Spring Bowl and Veterans Trophy.
Janet Kelly said: “I am so proud to have been Terry’s wife. So much of his life was dedicated to golf, but we worked around it and were ever so happy.”
Terry started playing golf at the age of 41 after retiring from football following spells with St Patricks’s in the Oldham Youth League and Oldham Sunday League outfit Broadway, earning various honours along the way.
As well as winning a number of events after switching to golf, he also scored holes-in-one at Oldham’s 16th and on the 15th at Werneth.
Terry, who married Janet in February, 2009, is also survived by sons Brett and Robin, daughter Lois, and stepsons Christopher and Mark.
The funeral takes place at 11am next Wednesday, October 12 at Oldham Crematorium.
