BOWLS: TONGE retained their Greater Manchester Premier League title with a 12-4 (179-175) defeat of Pierpoints.
In driving rain and strong winds, the side had six winners against their hosts, from Warrington.
Tonge’s successful sextet on the final night of league action were Colin Lane
(21-20), Tommy Dobson (21-18), Matt Gillies (21-20), Darren Griffiths (21-12), Gary Ellis (21-10) and Dave Watters (21-11).
The club had another reason to celebrate, with Andy Cairns finishing top of the league averages for the first time.
