Uppermill’s cup KO woe
Date published: 07 October 2011
FOOTBALL: UPPERMILL crashed out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup at the first round stage after a 3-0 defeat at Harlow Hill.
Despitre a number of injuries, visiting boss Simon Tait was confident he had a strong enough team to win the game, but their Harrogate and District Premier League opponents proved too strong.
It could have been a different outcome had Bobby Greenwood made the most of Kristian Ventress’ clever flicked pass after four minutes — but he fired the ball straight at the goalkeeper.
Harlow Hill took the lead after 12 minutes with a break-away effort.
Hesitancy in defence led to the second goal five minutes into the second period.
Harlow Hill were out of sight after an hour, with Tait’s side failing to deal with a long ball.
In Division Two of the Huddersfield and District League, Heyside saw off Shelley 5-0 thanks in no small part to a Leon Perry hat-trick.
Also on the mark were Ryan Barnes and Carl Winstanley.
Reserves Division Two action saw Heyside come from a goal behind to win
4-1 at Heywood Irish Centre, maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.
Chris Taylor, Mark Ringsley, Ashley Blakeman and Steven Partington were on target.
