TABLE TENNIS: THE ‘A’ teams of Unison and Coldhurst shared the spoils in an exciting Division Two clash in the Oldham Table Tennis League.
Former town team player Larry Bainbridge, returning after seven years out of the game because of injury, won all three for Unison, who recovered from the 4-2 deficit to draw 5-5.
Paul Howarth doubled up for the visitors.
The same two clubs met in Division Three with the same outcome. Simon Walsh won three for Coldhurst ‘B’, while David Wild and Mike O’Gara bagged a brace apiece for Unison ‘B’, which included victory in the doubles — 13-11 in the fifth — to secure the draw.
In another close match, Hollinwood ‘E’ overcame Owls ‘A’ 6-4 with league secretary John Foster, Stephen Evans and Paul Rourke winning two each.
Richard Tamworth continued his impressive start to the season, with two victories for the Owls and joining David Harthan to take the doubles 11-4 in the fifth.
Gary Crossley remains unbeaten for Saddleworth CC ‘B’, who defeated Club ‘A’ 6-4. Liaqat Ali had two wins for the visitors.
In Division Four, Werneth ‘G’ surprised their ‘F’ clubmates with a 7-3 victory — but it was closer than the scoreline suggested.
Four of the games went the full distance, two of them at deuce in the fifth.
